Events a plenty, on the Labour Day Weekend…the High Country Comes Alive!

Don’t miss the upcoming Alpine Discovery Weekend when the mountains and valleys come alive.  The towns of Benambra, Omeo & Swifts Creek host a three day event over the Labour Day long weekend, followed by the renowned High Country Calf Sales.

For over 134 years the Hinnomunjie Picnic Races starts the long weekend activities, on Saturday.  A six race program, televised Melbourne races, on course bookies, great food and wine, local stalls, and heaps of free events to keep the kids entertained makes for a perfect day out on the Omeo High Plains. The fashion critic’s will be trackside looking to crown this years Lady of the Day, Mr Dapper, and looking for the cutest little filly and colt sitting alongside their parents heel.  The Hinnomunjie Races is a high country picnic meet not to be missed, nor is the great music and atmosphere at the Benambra Hotel once the light fades on course.

On Sunday the as aptly named ‘Up the Creek Festival’ kicks off right in the middle of town at Swifts Creek.  A great day for all the family with numerous events such as, woodchop, lawn bowls comp, street art, local stalls, good music and great food. Or for those that just wish to relax can sit alongside the Tambo River, and listen to all the activity in a cool location.

Monday brings another great day of horse racing at the Tambo Valley racecourse, situated on the Great Alpine Road, approximately 5 kms out of Swifts Creek.  A 6 race program, televised Melbourne Races, auction, fashions on the field, and the renowned Roster Crow, makes another great day of horse racing in the Omeo Region.

Stick around for the rest of the week as the High Country Calf Sales starts Tuesday, a truly Australian High Country event, where the best Herefords and Black Angus meet. This is not just any calf sale, this is where the prime breeding stock is sourced and transported from the High Country towns of Ensay, Omeo and Benambra to paddocks far and wide across Australia.

Big bucks and a fast and furious pace this Easter!

Omeo comes alive with the famous Omeo Rodeo on Easter Saturday. See the thrills and spills at the Omeo Recreation Reserve, on this traditionally bustling weekend. Be sure to arrive early for a great spot, near the produce stalls, or the kids' activities, or the arena, or close to the cool refreshments and food. There is plenty to do and see for young and old.

Easter Sunday, take a short drive from Omeo to Hotham Airport to witness a game of polo like no other. See 'Geebung' the local mountain cattlemen show the city 'Cuff 'n' Collar' boys how to ride. An exciting polo match based on the poem by Banjo Paterson, demonstrating skill, great horsemanship and a lot of spirited determination. Helicopter rides, kids' games, music, delicious food and wine, delivers a great day for everyone.

Good Business, Great Variety, Fabulous Food!

High Country Market tempts the taste buds on the second Saturday of each Month!

The Omeo Region High Country Market is on again this weekend at the historical Courthouse Gardens this Saturday the 9th of Jan, from 9am to mid-day, sponsored by the Omeoshire Lions Club.

Local producers and Lion clubs volunteers hold the monthly market on the second Saturday of each month and long weekends.
