Lose yourself in a real High Country feast

This is the country of high quality beef cattle, tender fat lamb, trout filled streams, hearty eateries, delicious cafés and intriguing wineries.

Call into the Ensay winery, sample a 'Devil's Backbone' red and a crisp chardonnay. If boutique beers and high country tales are more to your liking then Howard at Mt Markey's Winery in Cassilis is just the man with his very own Howard's Cider Perry or Gold Rush Ale, and indulge in the 'Ole Horny'.

Taste the good oil with robust, full flavored Italian-style olive oil at Nullamunjie Olive Grove, and stay for lunch in the beautiful Tambo Valley.

The Omeo Region hosts good quality high country butchers, bakeries, delicious cafés and hearty dining in heritage surrounds at Mesley's Restaurant, a culinary oasis on the Great Alpine Road in Omeo. Even in the High Country you can get good pasta and pizza.

High Country pubs are not to be missed; such as the Little River Inn, the Albion Hotel, the Hilltop Hotel offering the best view over Omeo and the Historic 'Art Deco' Golden Age Hotel. Travel further afield to the Benambra Hotel for a pot and a game of pool. Make sure you visit the famous Blue Duck Inn for fresh local trout and high country steaks.

Selling locally grown fruits and fresh honey, make sure you call into the Omeo Region Visitor Information centre to take a piece of the region home with you.
